Saggar fired Vase, Unique Vase
A stoneware vase thrown by me in my garden studio here in Suffolk.
The vase was thrown in smooth stoneware clay. After it had dried a little I burnished the surface to make it smooth and silky. This is important as the vase will not be glazed.
It was then biscuit fired in my kiln to around 1,000 deg centigrade. The vase is then wrapped in various materials including string, copper wire, coir, oxides and hay. The vase is then carefully placed in a saggar which is a much larger reusable pot. It is then fired again in my kiln and the combustion produces the beautiful effects on the outside of the pot.
After the second firing the vase is gently waxed with a high grade wax to produce a beautiful subtle sheen and bring out the colours.
Each vase is completely different as I have no control over the effects produced within the sagger. This makes each vase completely unique and a one off.
The vase is not waterproof and is intended only for decoration. It could be used for dried flowers or a glass vessel can be placed inside to hold water for fresh flowers.
Please look at the photographs carefully as they form part of the description, especially the measurements.
Your vase will come carefully wrapped and packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. All my packaging is recyclable. I use Royal Mail for delivery as they collect from my drive when delivering to me and I don’t need to use my car.
Thank you for looking, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions.
